Current Artist -
Carolin Meyer is a multidisciplinary artist & DJ, working at the intersections of art and research. She is an Acme studio holder in New Cross/Deptford, and part of this year's cohort at School of the Damned, a hybrid, alternative MFA program based across the UK.
For the exhibition entitled Still lives, blaring, Carolin Meyer extends her fascination with the still life, which took hold during her undergraduate degree, History of Art, when writing her BA thesis, 'From Nautilus Cup to Smartphone: The Still Live in Digital Times' (2018), and turns to the tangible matters and possibilities of the genre.
Wall-mounted sculptural works, paintings and tableaux of assembled objects serve up questions about consumption, desire and value, as well as the eroding impact of digital technologies on our everyday lives as deeply entangled with our environment. Tending to the specific post-Christmas-holiday-family-blues, which many of us may feel in the new year, the exhibition, fittingly nestled in Peckham's cosiest communal space and deli, celebrates the necessity of sharing and scrutinising knowledge, the beauty in the mundane, and coming together against all attempts of polarisation.
For more earthly delights in the flesh, there will be a day of dancing - the artist-as-DJ will be present.
